Is that a sweet lolita? How did she get here? Where did she start?
That, in fact, is me! Surprise! You may not have expected it, but I am a "lolita". I hesitate to say that term, however, due to the negative adult oriented connotation of the word. Please know that lolita fashion has no relation to the novel of the same name nor the kink/18+ aspect. Lolita fashion is a subculture that originated in Japan and can now be found in countries all over the world. Including in the United States, where I live!
For my comfort and peace of mind, I will refer to myself as an EGL enthusiast. EGL stands for elegant gothic lolita, or the branch of fashion that lolita belongs in.
For some, lolita is solely a trend or a fashion choice. For others, it is a way of life. It is different for everyone; no two lolitas are alike and may have drastically different styles and opinions, similar to any other group.
For me, it's a little bit of both. I've been in the fashion now for six years! It's been a long, long journey, I will admit. And a hard one. I went from a young adult overpaying on non-lolita websites and dressing in lolita only for photos to shopping completely secondhand, going places in lolita on my own, and sewing my own repairs. It's a drastic change! And I can't say that I am not pleased with the way things turned out.
Enough of my rambling now! This is the section dedicated to my continued lolita fashion journey. These readings are suitable for beginners and experienced enthusiasts alike. I hope you enjoy!
